Blind Allegiance

There is a problem. A big problem. Please listen closely, and try not to take offense.

If you don’t know what that the Aliyah’s were, then don’t hastly jump to protect Israel when Palestine is brought up in a conversation. Just because you had a Bar Mitzvah, and your Mom was raised Jewish, doesn’t mean you have an obligation to protect everything Judaic.

If you consider yourself to be a Christian, then take note: Make sure you know what the Didache is before you start talking up a storm about abortion, and if you haven’t read Genesis 19:5, don’t complain about Same-Sex Marriage.

If you live with clean clothes, running water, food on the table, shelter, and an education, you are not from the ‘hood, and you are not “ghetto”. Stop acting the part.

You are not environmental friendly, and you are not an environmental activist, just because you have the money to buy a Prius.

You are not a democrat, and you don’t hold strictly liberal views just because your parents voted for John Kerry, and hate George Bush with a passion. So if you hate anything with the word Republican attached to it, and you pledge allegiance to the Democrats, please make sure you can describe the staple liberal concepts of pluralism, and progressive taxation.

Don’t be so quick to proclaim “Fuck the Police”, especially if you have never immersed yourself in a country like Columbia, where corruption & lawlessness is rampant.

You can be proud, but STOP BEING IGNORANT & FOOLISH. It degrates your religion, identity, and cause.

We are young. This is the time in our lives when we develop our identities, our beliefs, our morals. Stand up for what you think is right, and what you believe in, but DO NOT BLINDLY INHERIT THOSE BELIEFS.

Respectfully,

The Grip Doctrine.

Right on, man.

speak. On Prius owners: ironically many of those very same "conscientious" citizens who now own Prius' were the first in line to purchase and pump up their fume-belching monstrosities known as SUVs several years ago. Was it the rising CO2 levels or gas prices that changed your minds?

Go for it Saba.

and we would love it if you submitted some of your own ideas to the Grip Doctrine

Amen. this makes a lot of good points

Agreed & well put!

THANK YOU

Just because you smoke weed once a month, does not mean you are a pothead. Just because you do not eat meat, does not make you an animal rights activist.

...Not that you should aspire to either of those

Err...elaborate the Gen. 19:5 line...what are you saying?

Anonymous said...

To respond to the comment above.

In Genesis 19:5,

Homosexuality is portrayed as being responsible for the destruction of two ancient cities.

Christians frequently use this text as a reason for why Same-Sex Marriage is wrong, or "sinful".

Anonymous said...

its true about the cops portion. kids just dont like cops because they believe they are allowed to do anything they want without getting in trouble

Anonymous said...

Homosexaulity wasn't so much to blame as was the overall immorality of sodom and gomora (sp)....Most christians refer to the fact that god created a man and a women first, adam and eve, and that's how it was supposed to be...

Anonymous said...

It's Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve

Anonymous said...

Although considering the fact that the only thing Adam and Eve did was eternally damn mankind to liives of toil and sin, I doubt Adam and Steve can do any worse. At least their kids won't commit fratricide over a pile of vegetables.

Anonymous said...

That's neither here nor there, and doesn't change the fact that God created Adam and eve...

Anonymous said...

But by that same token God created man with the ability to love another man.

My point was only that those who say that gay couples will incur the wrath of God fail to remember how angry God got at the first male-female couple.

This is in response to what Sam Cotton said:

Either way you look at it, if someone is driving a prius, they are still helping the environment. Just because you, or whoever else feels that driving one is a negative thing, does not have enough money to buy one, does not mean you should take it out on someone who does.

Anonymous said...

No one is saying that.

Driving a Prius is a wonderful thing, and it is helping protect our environment.

Sam, and this article, are attacking the people who are all of sudden think they are environmental advocates, just because it is the "IN" thing right now.

Anonymous said...

I disagree, I think Sam, maybe not the article, actually holds prius drivers in contempt for their being "trendy."

Anonymous said...

Actually, while I hate to make assumptions on what Sam is saying, I don't think thats what he meant. those people who are "trendy" prius owners are very often the same people who leave the thermostat on all day. It's just that no one can tell whether you're doing that, as opposed to driving a gas guzzler.

Anonymous said...

I still don't really see why it matters for which reason someone is driving a prius.....as long as they're driving one. Maybe some are not environmentalist at heart, but they're still helping the environment when it comes to their car. Maybe in other aspects of life they waste CO2, paper, and whatnot like everyone else, but theoretically they're still more environmental than everybody who doesn’t drive a hybrid ...so why criticize them? If prius drivers are really buying priuses just because they're "in" we should be happy the "in" thing is something green, right? not discourage it.

Anonymous said...

Well I think a subtle distinction needs to be made...

My family has a fuel efficient car, and while I know that that is good, I don't claim to be an environmentalist. I think what the original poster wanted to stress was that people who drive Priuses are not necessarily enviromentalists; to be a true enviromentalist you need to do more.

So while driving a Prius is good, pretending that it means m ore than it does isn't

Anonymous said...

Generalizations are usually false, but Prius owners are overwhelmingly pretentious douchebags.

Fuck the police!

Anonymous said...

Yes, of course it is better they are driving a prius, but the ones who make it way to well known they are, are the ones that piss me off.

its like if someone was writing on recycled paper and started announcing to the people around him he was environmental friendly..

Anonymous said...

look, the whole thing about this article is that the person who wrote it is yearning to belong to something too. they are criticising people for what? for defending Israel. Because there is nothing wrong with defending a somewhat defenseless country.

Please explain to me what the "big problem" is with people who drive priuses and wish to stop a genocide in Darfur although they don't know where Darfur is.

Anonymous said...

yeah, i hate it when people pretend to be gay in west hollywood just to fit in.

I have history, I belong to Culture, I know what I stand for, and I have identity.

My Dad was brought up jewish.

My Mom was brought up christian.

My grandfather came to America to flee Hitler. He was a scientist in Austria.

My mother drives/owns a Prius.

My parents are both democrats.

My close friend and teammate was Eddie Lopez.

I did not write this article to bash anyone that belongs to something, or is proud of where they come from.

Do not take my words out of context.

This editorial was attack on ignorance and blind pride, not on culture or identity.

And it speaks volumes that you make a statement that Israel is a "defenselss" country, you obviously no nothing about their military and government, because they are anything but "defenseless".

Please, I encourage you to be open and share your opinions, they are valid and hold a lot of weight, but please, do what the article says, and know what you are protecting.

Respectfully,

i was merely exaggerating when i said Israel was defenseless, but they are indeed cornered, and it is a shame more people do not support this nation.

i agree as much as you do that "blind pride" is annoying because people should educate themselves before they form opinions.

but in the end, if it comes down to someone donating money to an AIDS foundation, even if they have never heard of the disease, their money should be happily accepted.

Once again,

I am not bashing the actual act, I am angered by the flaunting and need for recognition that comes along with it way to often.

Anonymous said...

in that case we agree with eachother. the overachievers of the world need to stop acting as if charity is an accessory.

Anonymous said...

Agreed.

Anonymous said...

Perhaps you mean Colombia? And sadly enough, the police down there is also among the perpetrators in the crime and corruption.

I have to agree here with the author. Perhaps I haven't read all comments carefully and someone's said this already, but beware of the asinine conformists who help in worthy causes, for they are a double-edged sword that can help your cause now and fight it later.

Thank you. Ignorance Sucks.

this same principle goes for persians to. i agree with the author

"If you live with clean clothes, running water, food on the table, shelter, and an education, you are not from the ‘hood, and you are not “ghetto”. Stop acting the part." water, food, and education arent the only things in life, don't be to quick to judge people (cuz u might get shot, lol :P, na but really u might! hehe ;] )
"It's Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve" ...exactly!!! stop listening to what the media tells you and open your eyes a little, what they advocate makes me laugh maybe next it's going to be ok to have sex with monkeys too. lol.

Anonymous said...

Not to play Devil's advocate, but what's wrong with a man and an adult, legally consenting monkey having sex if they want to?

What makes that so different from a man and an adult, legally consenting woman? Or a wowman and an adult man? Or a man and an adult man?

Sure, you can't get with the monkey as it has no way of consenting, but the others shouldnt be a problem.

Anonymous said...

@Yacek

Actually, the "Adam and Steve" comment was meant to mock the rediculousness of militant christians who feel that their emotions, ideas and beliefs should have a governing power of the decisions of others.

Anonymous said...

At least you live up to your stickers. Your misinterpretation is certainly "Keepin' me Entertained"

Anonymous said...

hehe ;P , that's good to know. lol. everyone has their own views; to me that's sick though.

so i guess this that means that monkeys are next??... :P

Anonymous said...

nah. A monkey can't be consensual. Another person can.

Anonymous said...

amen, this person should write more. and try to calm some kids down.

well i know you guys have had your own conversation and stuff

but im a freshman and ive had those ideas lingering a longgg time ESPECIALLY about the 'just because you parents are democrats doesnt mean you are...dont be a clone"

and to be honest...NONE of us are environmentally friendly. we all know that we've done harmful things to the environment numerous times in are life and its really annoying to deny it.

its seriously like just what i was thinking haha

:]

yet i do disagree about what you said in this.
'If you live with clean clothes, running water, food on the table, shelter, and an education, you are not from the ‘hood, and you are not “ghetto”. Stop acting the part.'

well, what if someone is a gangbanger and a heavy graff artist, and they live in a nice house with clean clothes, does that mean that they are not ghetto. there is a gang member, drug dealer, heroin shooter, complete thug that lives in santa monica in a nice house...are they not ghetto? thats pretty superficial in my opinion...but its true that they ARENT from the hood...but that doesnt mean they cant be ghetto..

Anonymous said...

This is the definition of "ghetto":

"
a section of a city, esp. a thickly populated slum area, inhabited predominantly by members of an ethnic or other minority group, often as a result of social or economic restrictions, pressures, or hardships.
"

... now rethink your last comment about kids from big houses in santa monica being ghetto.

Anonymous said...

Actually, I tend to agree with Colin a little on this. While you aren't FROM the ghetto, there is definitely a "ghetto" culture that has sprung up outside it. I just happen to think its ridiculous.

So I guess i'm a lil split

Anonymous said...

This is true,

but if you imitate the "ghetto" culture, and you are from the northside of santa monica,

you are a fraud, and are not really "ghetto". you are trying to be ghetto.

i guess it just depends if you consider a poser who trys to be ghetto, ghetto,... i personally do not, but i def. see your two points.
